Alkem Scale Models builds custom models to your specifications. We specialize in models of historic structures, historic dioramas, heavy industrial subjects, and military models. Some of our clients include such prestigious organizations as:
- B&O Railroad Museum
- The Lyceum, Alexandria's City Museum
- Collingwood Museum and Library
- Walther's Corporation
- Kalmbach Publishing
- Easi-Set Industries
- AgriSmart Inc.
- Abraham Lincoln Museum
We have also built dozens of models for private individuals from single structures to turn key dioramas and small modular sections. We don't build complete home layouts. We focus on highly detailed, fine scale models, usually of specific prototypes.
The process we follow begins with an inquiry from a client, usually by email, but sometimes by regular mail or phone. If the project is feasible, we submit a proposal to the client describing the project, cost and schedule. The cost depends on the scope of the project, how much information is available especially for a scratch built model, what level of detail is required and how soon. If the proposal is accepted, we build the model in accordance with the agreed upon schedule and cost. Shipping, delivery or pick up must be arranged based on the size and fragility of the finished model.
We have capabilities to scratch build most model railroad projects. We have in-house laser cutting, spin casting and machining capability. When necessary for demanding applications, we can also have parts photo etched by an ISO 9001 qualified subcontractor.
The primary builder, Bernard Kempinski, is an award winning master modeler. Subcontractors are called in for special capabilities as necessary, such as electronic fabrication, circuit design, and mechanical animation.
The photo galleries show examples of the wide range of our previous work.
